Dan Collins

Dan Collins is a Partner in Dentons' Energy Regulation group based in Calgary, practising primarily in the areas of energy regulatory and environmental law. He has significant experience representing clients in complex and contentious regulatory proceedings before the Canada Energy Regulator, Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Utilities Commission, Alberta Environmental Appeals Board and various other federal and provincial regulators.

He advises clients on compliance with federal and provincial environmental laws, including management and minimization of liability arising from environmental risks, and has experience representing clients facing enforcement actions, environmental prosecutions and investigations resulting from operational incidents. Notable matters include advising Enbridge Inc. on the CA$4 billion Sunrise Expansion Program natural gas pipeline expansion, acting as co‑counsel in contentious disputes before the Canada Energy Regulator concerning economic regulation and transportation tariff matters, and advising on regulatory considerations concerning carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) in Western Canada.

Dan holds a J.D. from the University of Calgary (2014) and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Brunswick (2010), specializing in Energy Conversion. Prior to law, he worked for a leading engineering consulting firm, focusing on air pollution control and regulatory compliance.

He is recognised by Chambers Canada for Energy: Oil & Gas (Regulatory) and by The Legal 500 Canada for Energy and Natural Resources – Oil and Gas and Environment.
