Ekin Cinar, FCIArb

Ekin Cinar, FCIArb, is an Associate in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, based in the Toronto office, practicing in Arbitration and Mediation. She is a dual-qualified arbitration and litigation lawyer with a practice focusing on international and domestic arbitration and litigation, with particular emphasis on the construction, energy, mining, and shipping industries. She also has experience in investment law and investor-state disputes.

Ms. Cinar has extensive experience in enforcement of arbitral awards, cross-border proceedings, and set-aside applications, and has acted under institutional rules including ICC, AAA, LCIA and ICSID, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations. Her notable experience includes advising a gold mining company against a sovereign state in a US$1 billion investment treaty arbitration before ICSID, representing a financial institution in the enforcement of a multimillion-dollar arbitral award seated in DIFC, and representing a claimant in a US$30 million share purchase dispute in an ad-hoc arbitration. She also successfully represented Tehama Group Inc. in a motion to stay a set-aside application under the UNCITRAL Model Law. She is fluent in English, French, and Turkish, and holds a Foreign Legal Consultant Permit from the Law Society of Ontario, enabling her to advise on Turkish law in Ontario.

Ekin holds a GPLLM from the University of Toronto (2021), an LLM from Université Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne (2014), and an LLB from Galatasaray University (2011). She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and serves as Vice President of Events and a Board Member of the Young Canadian Arbitration Practitioners, and is a member of the ICC Canada Arbitration Committee. She is admitted to the Istanbul Bar Association and is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. She was recognized as a Rising Star in Dispute Resolution by Legal 500 in Türkiye (2019).
