Matthew Bennett

Matthew Bennett is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Corporate and Venture Technology and Emerging Growth Companies groups, and serves as the Calgary leader of the Private Equity group, specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions. He has extensive experience in M&A, private equity, venture capital, and startup‑related matters, providing strategic legal counsel to clients to drive growth and innovation.

Matthew works with companies, private equity sponsors, and search funds on complex M&A transactions, structuring deals with private credit, bank debt, and unique share structures. He also has experience in public markets, including private investments in public equity (PIPEs). Notable matters include advising Renold plc on its acquisition of MAC Chain Company for a total cash consideration of US$31.4 million; advising Blackrock Metals Inc. on its CA$140 million reverse takeover transaction; advising Zomedica Corp. on its US$173.5 million bought‑deal public financing; advising Kent Imaging Inc. on its US$15 million Series A private equity investment; and advising a UK‑based energy company on its acquisition of a TSX‑listed company by plan of arrangement.

Matthew holds a J.D. and a B.Comm from the University of Saskatchewan (2015, 2012). He is admitted to practice in Alberta (2019) and Saskatchewan (2016).
