Mike (Michael) A. Hurst

Mike (Michael) A. Hurst is Counsel at Dentons and past manager of the firm's Energy practice section in the Calgary office. He has also served as the firm's national and global Energy sector lead for Canada. His practice focuses on Oil and Gas Law.

Mike's expertise is in the areas of energy transactions, joint venture structuring and infrastructure projects. His advice has been sought with respect to oil and gas upstream, midstream and pipeline acquisitions, the structuring of greenfield projects, financing transactions and product sales arrangements. He has worked on infrastructure projects in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, the Canadian arctic and offshore areas and South America.

His experience includes advising Dow Chemical Canada ULC on its Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero investment (US$6.5 billion) to build the world's first net-zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions integrated ethylene cracker and derivatives facility in Alberta, advising Cenovus Energy Inc. on its $940 million sale of oil and gas properties near Weyburn, Saskatchewan to Whitecap Resources Inc., and advising Enbridge Inc. on the CA$30.4 billion drop-down to Enbridge Income Fund.

He holds an LLB and a BA from the University of Alberta. He is recognised by Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, The Legal 500 Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Energy, Oil and Gas, Mergers and Acquisitions and Natural Resources Law.
