Jean Chrétien

The Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, P.C., C.C., O.M., K.C., Ad. E. is Counsel at Dentons, specializing in Administrative Law. He joined the Firm in February 2014 after a distinguished career in public service, including serving as the Prime Minister of Canada from 1993 to 2003.

Mr. Chrétien was first elected to the House of Commons in 1963. During his political career, he held numerous senior Cabinet positions, including Minister of Finance, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Secretary of State for External Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources, among others. He was awarded the Order of Canada (Companion) in 2007 and the Order of Merit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2009. He has served as co‑president of the InterAction Council since 2008.

He completed his law studies at Université Laval and was admitted to the Québec Bar in 1958, and is also a member of the Ontario Bar (1980). He has received honorary doctorates from more than a dozen universities worldwide.
