Katarzyna (Kat) Sliwa

Katarzyna (Kat) Sliwa is a Partner at Dentons, serving as leader of the Municipal Planning, Land Use and Development Law group, specializing in Real Estate Law. She provides counsel to landowners navigating the approval process for development and redevelopment projects, and strategically guides clients in resolving complex land use challenges throughout Ontario.

Kat's diverse client base includes development companies, builders, landowner groups, institutions, commercial and retail users, cannabis industry, restaurants, and hotels. She advises on official plan and zoning by‑law amendments, plans of subdivision, severance, variance, site plan matters, and development agreements. She frequently appears before the Ontario Land Tribunal, municipal councils, and committees. Notable matters include providing strategic advice for the approval of the Durham Live tourist destination and casino in Pickering, representing Mizrahi Development on the redevelopment of the tallest residential building in Canada, and advising Flato Development on large‑scale Smart Communities proposals. She also represents Canadian National Railway Company on development impacts across Canada and assists Choice REIT with redevelopment in various municipalities.

Kat holds an LL.B from Western University (2004) and a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Toronto (2000). She was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2005.
