Michael Kershaw

Michael Kershaw is a Partner in Dentons' Real Estate group. He maintains a broad real estate transactional practice, with a particular emphasis on Real Estate Law and real estate financing.

Michael's experience includes syndicated facilities, project and construction financings and commercial mortgage lending, as well as acquisitions and dispositions, leasing and property development matters. He has worked on transactions across a broad range of real estate asset classes, including multifamily housing, condo construction, industrial and residential subdivisions, self-storage, hospitality properties, office and commercial properties.

He regularly acts for lenders on mortgages insured by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and advises both lenders and borrowers on the regulatory aspects of CMHC-insured financing. His recent experience includes acting as lender's counsel on a CA $470 million separate mortgage financing of a 50% interest in a commercial office tower in Toronto's financial district, and advising a syndicate of lenders on a CA $300 million site servicing and construction facility for an industrial subdivision in the GTA.

Before joining the firm, Michael was a partner at a leading national law firm, served as Assistant General Counsel for a private REIT and worked as an Associate City Solicitor for the City of Guelph. He holds a JD from the University of Toronto and a BCS from Dalhousie University. He is recognised by The Best Lawyers in Canada and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading lawyer in Real Estate Law.
