Raphael T. Eghan

Raphael T. Eghan is a Partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group and Co-Leader of the Securities Litigation subgroup at Dentons, based in Toronto. His practice focuses on Commercial Litigation, with deep experience in investigations and capital markets regulatory proceedings.

Raphael's practice encompasses complex corporate and commercial matters, with a focus on securities, banking and shareholder disputes. He has appeared before courts and tribunals across Canada, including all levels of court in Ontario, the Ontario Securities Commission, the British Columbia Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prior to joining Dentons, Raphael honed his skills at another prominent Canadian law firm, and gained valuable insight as a prosecutor with the Ontario Securities Commission's Enforcement Branch and as senior litigation counsel for a top-tier bank. He currently serves as a member of the Ontario Securities Commission's Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee.

His experience includes advising BDC Capital, HOOPP and Portage Ventures on KOHO's CA$130 million financing round, valuing the company at CA$1.33 billion; appearing in the Supreme Court of Canada for the Alberta Securities Commission in Poonian v British Columbia Securities Commission in respect of the enforceability of administrative monetary penalties post-bankruptcy; acting for the Neufeld Family Foundation at appellate level in a matter involving the regulatory statutes of charities; and acting as counsel in a successful application in a competition class action to obtain a stay of all competition claims in favour of arbitration.

Beyond his legal practice, Raphael is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion within the legal profession and the broader community. He leads the Dentons Canada Black Professionals Network and is an active member of the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers' Advocacy Committee.

He is recognised by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Litigation – Securities and by The Best Lawyers in Canada for Corporate and Commercial Litigation. He is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, The Advocates' Society, the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (Advocacy Committee), the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals and the Ontario Securities Commission's Securities Proceedings Advisory Committee, and has been a Guest Instructor at Osgoode Hall Law School's Intensive Trial Advocacy Program since 2022.
