Barbara L. Grossman

Barbara L. Grossman is Counsel in Dentons Canada LLP's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group, based in Toronto. Her practice focuses on Commercial Litigation, including class actions, with an emphasis on insolvency, banking and finance, and real estate litigation.

Barbara also has extensive experience in the areas of professional liability, intellectual property litigation, estate, trust and pension litigation, litigation in the aviation industry, and injunctions and other extraordinary remedies.

She has appeared as lead counsel on mediations, arbitrations, before administrative tribunals and in leading cases at all levels of trial and appellate courts, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and is experienced in cross-border and complex multi-party litigation.

Barbara started her litigation career as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Ontario. Since 1990, she has been certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in civil litigation. She holds an LLB from Osgoode Hall (1979) and completed two years of undergraduate study at the University of Toronto (1974–1976).

She is recognised by Best Lawyers in Canada for Corporate and Commercial Litigation and holds a Martindale-Hubbell Distinguished Peer Review Rating. She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Toronto Lawyers' Association and The Advocates' Society, and has held leadership roles including Chair of The Advocates' Society Standing Committee on Advocacy and Practice (2007–2008) and Director of The Advocates' Society (2005–2008).

She is Chair of the Toronto Pro Bono Committee and a Member for Canada on the Global Pro Bono Committee. She has taught trial advocacy at Osgoode Hall Law School for many years and is a frequent speaker on various aspects of commercial litigation.
