Mehmet Kömürcü, Ph.D.

Mehmet Kömürcü, Ph.D. is a Partner in the firm's Corporate Law group, based in the Toronto office. He advises Canadian and international clients on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance and reorganizations, business immigration, and general corporate and commercial issues, with particular focus on technology, energy, education, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and hospitality.

Mr. Kömürcü was previously General Counsel to Turk Telekom during its privatization, international expansion, and subsequent IPO—the largest in Türkiye's history at that time—advising on the winning bid in the privatization and managing the closing process for the CA$6.5 billion transaction. He also acted as team leader in the privatization of various Turkish state-owned companies, including TUPRAS and Erdemir. He has represented clients in ICC Arbitration and before Turkish courts and ICSID arbitration in a CA$150 million infrastructure dispute.

He holds an SJD (Ph.D.) and an LLM from the University of Wisconsin, an LLM from American University, and an LLB from Ankara University (1993). He is licensed to practice law in Ontario, Istanbul, and New York. He has published extensively on international law, telecommunications law, and anti-corruption issues, and served as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University.
