Pierre D. Grenier

Pierre D. Grenier is a Partner in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution group, based in the Montréal office, specializing in Construction Law and energy. He represents owners and developers, general and specialized contractors in major infrastructure and construction projects, equipment manufacturers, financial institutions, and investors, with a focus on dispute resolution through negotiation, mediation, adjudication, arbitration, and judicial proceedings.

Mr. Grenier has represented Infrastructure Canada on the New Bridge on the St-Lawrence project (including a $400 million claim), Infrastructures Québec on the Turcot Project, Rio Tinto Alcan on electricity transmission reliability standards, and TC Energy before the Régie de l'énergie du Québec. He has also represented Canadian National Railway in civil litigation and regulatory matters, GNL Québec on energy matters related to the Saguenay LNG project, and Crédit-Suisse in a professional liability action against PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He has served as arbitrator in commercial matters and construction projects and has advised government clients on the High Frequency Railway and Atlantic Loop projects.

Pierre holds an LL.L. and an MBA from the University of Ottawa (1988) and a BM from the same institution (1984). He is a certified mediator, arbitrator, and adjudicator and serves as President/Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Institut de médiation et d'arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ) since 2014. He assisted the Québec Treasury Board in developing Prompt Payment and Adjudication Legislation and contributed to the Canadian Delegation to UNCITRAL Working Group II, including on the Singapore Convention.

He has been recognized by Chambers Canada in Energy: Provincial Regulatory (Québec), by The Best Lawyers in Canada in Corporate Commercial Litigation, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Construction Law, Energy Law, and Public Procurement Law, and received the Lionel J. McGowan National Award of Excellence in Dispute Resolution 2024. He was named "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers for Energy Law in Montreal (2022).
