Jerry J. Patterson, KC

Jerry J. Patterson, KC, is a Partner in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice, based in the Calgary office, specializing in Energy Law and commercial litigation. He has appeared as lead counsel at all levels of Alberta Courts and has participated in numerous successful dispute resolutions through arbitrations, judicially-assisted and private mediations.

Mr. Patterson has advised major and junior energy companies on EPC/construction matters, Farmout and Joint Operating Agreement disputes, pipeline construction and transportation disputes, allegations of misuse of confidential information, and competition law compliance. Notable representations include a $550 million dispute over a commercial lease, a $14 million international arbitration involving Farmout and Joint Operating Agreements in South America, a three-month trial involving allegations of Competition Act violations, and representing Avmax Aircraft Leasing Inc. in precedent-setting litigation regarding the interpretation of the Cape Town Convention (2022 ABCA 25).

He holds a B.A. and LL.B. from the University of Manitoba (1994). He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2020 and is a past President of the Calgary Bar Association. He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada in Corporate and Commercial Litigation and Energy Law, and by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in Litigation - Corporate Commercial and Energy (Oil & Gas).
