Joseph P. Lougheed, KC

Joseph P. Lougheed, KC, is a Partner in the firm's Corporate Law group, based in the Calgary office. He focuses on corporate/commercial law, including private equity, corporate M&A, and corporate governance. He also serves as a member of the Dentons Canada Region Board.

Mr. Lougheed provides advice to domestic and international companies on various corporate matters, including drafting and negotiating contracts, private mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, start-ups, and corporate governance and compliance. He has acted as counsel to a large multinational company serving as EPC contractor for one of the largest infrastructure projects in Canadian history, and to US and Canadian private equity funds setting up parallel funds and alternative investment vehicles in Canada.

He holds an LLB from Dalhousie University (1991), an International Relations General Course Certificate from the London School of Economics and Political Science (1988), and a BA (Hons) from Queen's University (1987). He was appointed King's Counsel in 2024, received the King Charles III Coronation Medal and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, and was named "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers for Private Funds Law in Calgary (2023 and 2025). He is also an Officer (First Class) of the Royal Order of the Polar Star of Sweden and serves as Honorary Consul of Sweden for Alberta.
