Philip S. Tinkler

Philip S. Tinkler is a Senior Counsel in Dentons' Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group in Edmonton, focusing on class actions, professional liability, and complex civil litigation. He has appeared before all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, and has acted as counsel in numerous arbitrations and mediations.

He leads the Class Action practice in the Edmonton office and has acted for both defendants and plaintiffs in class proceedings across a variety of contexts. Notable matters include successfully defending a North American railway in a proposed class action (2023 ABCA 150), serving as lead counsel in a class proceeding concerning benefits entitlements of members of a First Nation (Bruno v Samson Cree Nation), and acting as plaintiff's consortium counsel in the CA$1.5 billion multi‑jurisdictional class action arising from the contamination of the blood system in Canada. He has also represented clients in medical negligence, catastrophic injury, product liability and insurance litigation matters, including a CA$25 million subrogated recovery claim.

Philip holds an LL.B from Queen's University (1992) and a B.A. (with Distinction) from the University of Toronto (1988).

He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Class Action Litigation.
