Afshan Naveed, KC

Afshan Naveed, KC, is a Partner in the firm's Restructuring, Insolvency and Bankruptcy group, based in the Calgary office, practicing in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law. Her practice spans both Canadian and international matters, with a notable focus on commercial foreclosure and corporate restructurings. She provides strategic counsel to creditors, debtors, court-appointed monitors, receivers, and trustees in bankruptcy, guiding them through complex insolvencies and restructurings of all sizes.

Ms. Naveed regularly appears before all levels of Court in Alberta and has been recognized for her depth of experience and results-driven approach. Notable matters include counsel to a large Canadian private company in complex cross-border fraud proceedings, obtaining Mareva freezing orders and Norwich Pharmacal relief against multiple financial institutions resulting in recovery of the majority of misappropriated funds; counsel to the court-appointed Receiver in the CA$100 million receivership of the Versante Hotel; and counsel to the BC Investment Agriculture Foundation in CCAA proceedings involving the BC Tree Fruits Cooperative Group. She is qualified to practice law in Scotland, where she was admitted as a solicitor in 2009.

Afshan holds an LLB from the University of Edinburgh (2006), a Dip LP from the University of Edinburgh (2008), and a BA in Psychology from the University of Calgary (2002). She is a Bencher of the Law Society of Alberta and a Director of Pro Bono Law Alberta. She has been recognized by Chambers Canada in Restructuring/Insolvency, The Best Lawyers in Canada in Insolvency and Financial Restructuring Law, and IFLR 1000 Canada in Restructuring and Insolvency.
