Bernie (Bernard) J. Roth, KC

Bernie J. Roth, KC is a Partner and National Energy group leader at Dentons in Calgary, focusing on energy law, utilities and environmental matters, including major energy infrastructure projects, regulatory approvals, judicial reviews and cross-border energy trade issues.

He regularly acts for oil and gas organizations, utilities and energy companies before the Alberta Energy Utilities Commission, the Canada Energy Regulator, the British Columbia Utilities Commission and other regulatory tribunals, as well as before the Alberta and Federal Courts on judicial review and appeals. He also advises on NAFTA and international trade provisions relating to energy goods and investment protection.

Bernie holds an LL.M. from Columbia University (1992), an LL.B. (Great Distinction and Gold Medalist) from the University of Saskatchewan (1988), and a B.A. (Honours) from the University of Saskatchewan (1985). He was appointed Queen's Counsel in April 2022.

He is recognized by Chambers Global, Chambers Canada, The Legal 500 Canada, The Best Lawyers in Canada and Who's Who Legal for energy, environmental and regulatory law. He was named "Lawyer of the Year" by Best Lawyers for Administrative and Public Law in Calgary (2018, 2022).
