George Tai

George Tai is a Partner in Dentons' Calgary office, focusing on mergers and acquisitions, securities and corporate finance, and corporate and commercial transactions, primarily in the energy and technology sectors.

He has a solid track record of structuring and negotiating international commercial transactions, advising Canadian-based clients on transactions in Asia and Asian-based clients on investments and business opportunities in Canada. He has successfully negotiated complex licensing contracts, service agreements and software development agreements with multinational original equipment manufacturers, telecommunications companies and software companies. Notable matters include advising on the US$70+ million sale of an Alberta-based software company to a US private equity firm, a US$50 million cross-border equity financing for a Canadian CleanTech company, and a CA$30+ million sale of a Calgary-based technology company to a US technology firm. He also advises technology and biotechnology companies on IPOs, financings and M&A, and has experience advising oil and gas companies on commercial agreements, financings and takeover bids.

George holds a J.D. from Western University (1991) and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from the University of Toronto (1988).

He served as Managing Partner of the Calgary Office from 2021 to 2025 and is a former member of Dentons Canada's National Management Committee and Canada Region Board. He is recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Corporate Law and is a Senior Advisor to the Canada-China Commercial Association.
