Hugh Drummond

Hugh Drummond is a Partner in Dentons' Banking and Finance group in the Vancouver office, specialising in Banking and Finance Law. He advises financial institutions, private lenders, corporate and special purpose borrowers, issuers and financial sponsors on a broad range of debt financing arrangements across various industry sectors and geographies.

Hugh is qualified in both British Columbia and England & Wales, and practised in the banking and finance department of a leading English law firm in its London and Hong Kong offices for a decade before relocating to Canada in 2016. He has significant experience in corporate, acquisition, leveraged and asset-based financings, as well as real estate, project and regulated industry financing, recapitalisations and restructurings. Notable matters include advising RBC Capital Markets and Scotiabank on a CA$336 million bond offering supporting the CA$736 million investment by a coalition of 36 First Nations in Enbridge's Westcoast natural gas pipeline system—recognised as Canadian Law Awards Capital Markets Deal of the Year 2026—and advising Bank of Montreal on a CA$350 million loan facility to a joint venture of Premium Brands and Mi'kmaq First Nations for the CA$1 billion acquisition of Clearwater Seafoods.

Hugh holds a B.A. from Oxford University (2004), a Graduate Diploma in Law from Oxford Brookes University (2005), and completed the Legal Practice Course at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice (2006).
