He has significant experience in corporate, acquisition, leveraged and asset-based financings, as well as real estate, project and regulated industry financing, recapitalisations and restructurings. Notable matters include advising RBC Capital Markets and Scotiabank on a CA$336 million bond offering supporting the CA$736 million investment by a coalition of 36 First Nations in Enbridge's Westcoast natural gas pipeline system—recognised as Canadian Law Awards Capital Markets Deal of the Year 2026—and advising Bank of Montreal on a CA$350 million loan facility to a joint venture of Premium Brands and Mi'kmaq First Nations for the CA$1 billion acquisition of Clearwater Seafoods.

Hugh holds a B.A. from Oxford University (2004), a Graduate Diploma in Law from Oxford Brookes University (2005), and completed the Legal Practice Course at the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice (2006).
