John A. Peters, KC

John A. Peters, KC is Counsel at Dentons in Calgary. He is a highly respected senior practitioner in commercial real estate, development, and corporate and commercial legal work, with a specialty in the formation of real estate syndicates, including joint ventures and limited partnership arrangements.

He commenced his career in Winnipeg as in-house counsel to a fully-integrated real estate development company involved in the syndication of real estate through public offerings and private placements. He also spent a year with a multi-national German law firm advising German businesses on investments in Canada. In 1984 he relocated to Calgary and worked with major and national law firms prior to joining Dentons in 2015.

His clients are involved in real estate development, construction, the hospitality business, oilfield services, and manufacturing. He has represented a real estate developer in a CA$200 million loan transaction with a Canadian banking syndicate; acted for a manufacturer in a CA$75 million investment by a private equity fund; represented an owners' syndicate in a major regional shopping centre development; and acted as counsel to an oilfield equipment manufacturer in the sale of its business to a NYSE-listed company.

He holds a BA (Honours) in Economics from the University of Manitoba (1974), an LL.B from the University of Manitoba (1978), an MSc in International Business Management from Boston University (1990), and an LL.M in Securities Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University (2003). He is recognized by The Legal 500 Canada for Real Estate.
