Kay Scorer

Kay Scorer is a Senior Associate in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution group at Dentons in Vancouver, maintaining a broad practice in corporate, commercial and civil litigation, including immigration and administrative law. They have represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia, the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal.

Prior to joining Dentons, Kay was a tribunal member at the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (2021–2025), leading national trainings on adjudication techniques and delivering international sessions at The Hague on evidentiary analysis in cases involving queer and transgender asylum seekers. Notable litigation experience includes acting as co‑counsel for the intervenor the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) in Saskatchewan (Minister of Education) v UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, a landmark Saskatchewan Court of Appeal decision confirming that invocation of the notwithstanding clause does not immunize government action from judicial scrutiny; acting as co‑counsel for a minor in A.B. v. C.D. and E.F., which affirmed the minor's right to access gender affirming medical care; and acting as co‑counsel for the defendant in Reed v. Canadian National Railway Company, successfully resisting an application to pierce litigation privilege.

Kay holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor (2015), graduating as valedictorian of their class, and a Bachelor of Tourism Management from Thompson Rivers University (2012).

They have served on the Board of Access Pro Bono since 2019 and are actively involved in community-based legal initiatives.
