Sarah Acker

Sarah Acker is an Associate in the Office of the General Counsel of Dentons Canada, focusing on Corporate Law. She is part of an in-house team of legal advisors to the Firm who provide legal advice to lawyers, management — including the Board of Directors — and members of the Firm’s business services.

She advises on commercial agreements, professional ethics and legal obligations, confidentiality and privacy, and compliance with regional and global policies and procedures, and is also involved in legal training and education at the Firm. Prior to joining the Office of the General Counsel, she worked as a conflicts lawyer at the Firm, specialising in identifying and resolving potential conflicts of interest and related compliance issues domestically and internationally.

Sarah has worked as an adjudicator for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada’s Refugee Protection Division, where she prepared, presided over and decided refugee claims. She articled with the Ministry of the Attorney General, Crown Law Office – Criminal division, working on criminal appellate matters and prosecuting provincial offences.

She is involved in non-legal pro bono work with new immigrants and refugees to Canada, and has previously done pro bono legal work with Montréal’s Aboriginal community and the national office of Innocence Canada. Sarah holds a BCL / LLB (2015), an MA in Political Science (2011) and a BA (First Class Hons.) (2008) from McGill University, and has studied and worked in Montréal, Paris, and Washington, D.C.
