Sarat C. Maharaj

Sarat C. Maharaj is a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial group and the Edmonton leader of the Private Equity group, specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions. He advises clients on mergers, acquisitions, sale transactions, reorganizations and amalgamations, and assists public and private issuers in raising capital through private placements and with disclosure and reporting requirements.

Sarat has advised on significant transactions, including Rexall Health on its CA$3 billion sale to McKesson Corporation, Civeo Corporation on its redomiciliation from the US to Canada and prior US$775 million financing and separation from Oil States International, and Dynamic Risk Assessment Systems Inc. on its sale to Eddyfi NDT Inc. He also advised on the CA$925 million sale of Medicine Shoppe Canada Inc. to McKesson Canada. He holds a Chartered Accountant designation and practised corporate and commercial law in Toronto prior to joining Dentons in 2010.

Sarat holds an LL.B. and a BComm from the University of Alberta (2004, 1998).

He was named "Lawyer of the Year" by The Best Lawyers in Canada for Mergers and Acquisitions Law (2025) and for Securities Law, Edmonton (2022). He is also recognised in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Mergers & Acquisitions.
