G. James Thorlakson

G. James Thorlakson is a Partner based in the Edmonton office, practicing in the firm's Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice. His practice focuses on corporate fraud asset recovery, breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder disputes, and commercial litigation, with extensive experience in Anton Piller Orders, Norwich Orders, and Mareva Injunctions.

Mr. Thorlakson has acted as trial counsel in numerous commercial litigation and corporate fraud claims, and has appeared before courts across Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court of Canada. Notable representations include recovering $1 million together with $100,000 in punitive damages in fraudulent conveyance proceedings, obtaining a $1.2 million judgment with indemnity costs, and obtaining numerous Norwich orders compelling financial institutions to identify embezzled funds, including a cross-border Norwich order compelling production of documents disclosing the identity of an anonymous defamer on social media.

James holds an LLB from the University of Alberta (1994) and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Alberta (1991). He is a member of the Law Societies of Alberta, the Northwest Territories, and Yukon, and is an Associate Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
