Laurie LaPalme

Laurie LaPalme is the Global Insurance Sector Leader at Dentons and leads Dentons Canada's National Corporate and Regulatory Insurance practice, practicing in Corporate Law. With more than 20 years of experience, she advises domestic and foreign life and general insurance companies, insurance agents and brokers, and reinsurance companies on corporate and regulatory matters, transactions, corporate reorganizations, and governance issues.

Her practice involves mergers and acquisitions, portfolio transfers, demutualization, corporate reorganizations, formation of insurers, federal and provincial licensing, corporate governance, and compliance matters. She advises on the establishment and operation of captive insurers, self-funded deductible programs, and other risk retention and transfer structures, as well as entry into Canada, including incorporation, financing, and drafting of shareholder, partnership, joint venture, purchase and sale, and commercial agreements.

Laurie holds an LLB from the University of Western Ontario (1998) and a BBA (Hons) from Wilfrid Laurier University (1995). She has been recognized by Chambers Canada in Insurance: Transactional and Regulatory, The Legal 500 Canada in Corporate M&A, The Best Lawyers in Canada in Insurance Law, and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory in Financial Institutions Regulation.
