Sean Fairhurst

Sean Fairhurst is a Partner and Leader of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group in Dentons' Calgary office. His practice focuses on Commercial Litigation, largely on commercial and employment litigation matters for a variety of clients, ranging from closely held family businesses to large multi-national corporations and municipalities.

A sought-after advocate, Sean has significant litigation experience in the context of agri-business, construction, oil and gas, employment and real estate. He has represented parties at all levels of court in Alberta, the Superior Court of Ontario, the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Ontario Court of Appeal, as well as a wide range of regulatory tribunals and private arbitrations and mediations.

To his successful litigation practice, Sean has integrated alternative dispute resolution, recognising that not all matters are suited for the traditional court-streamed process. A strategic and "out of the box" thinker, he is skilled at assessing each client's situation before choosing the ideal resolution method for them.

His experience includes representing the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers before the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on the continuation of CTT Orders preventing the dumping of refined sugar products into the Canadian market, negotiating the Annual Master Agreement and Annual Grower's Contracts between ASBG and the processor of members' produced beet crop, and acting as counsel to a municipality in a CA$50M damages claim focused on the alleged failure to assign water and waste water services agreements, which was successfully resolved following mediation and arbitration.

He holds an LL.B. and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Alberta.
