Xavier Van Overmeire

Xavier Van Overmeire is a Partner at Dentons, practicing in the Mergers and Acquisitions group with a focus on international trade. He advises clients on international M&A, joint ventures, strategic alliances, and cross‑border commercial transactions, with extensive experience in the energy, natural resources, pharmaceutical, technology, and e‑commerce sectors.

Xavier has advised on numerous cross‑border transactions, including the purchase of all shares of a UK‑based entity specializing in overhead crane safety and control; the sale of a medical equipment provider specializing in wound management and pain relief; advising a Canadian private equity firm on the share purchase of an Ontario‑based healthcare brand management and logistics services company; and advising La Granaudière on all aspects of a transatlantic France‑Canada wood pellet production project. He also represents domestic and foreign companies before international courts and arbitration panels on international trade, investment, and import‑export issues. He has significant experience in international sale contracts for precious metals, mining, pharmaceutical distribution, and technology licensing, and advises on free trade agreements including CETA.

Xavier holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Corporate Law from the Université de Montréal and a Licence en droit from the University of Louvain-La‑Neuve, Belgium. He was admitted to the Brussels Bar in 2004 and is a foreign legal consultant in Quebec (2008).

He has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in Canada in International Trade and Finance Law and in The Legal 500 Canada in International Trade. He is a Fellow of the Centre d'études et de recherches internationales de l'Université de Montréal and teaches international commercial transactions at the Université de Montréal's Faculty of Law.
