Thomas (Tom) A. Houston

Thomas (Tom) A. Houston is Counsel at Dentons in the Ottawa office, specialising in Mergers and Acquisitions. He provides strategic advice on corporate finance, venture capital, M&A and corporate governance, with an emphasis on the technology sector.

Tom has assisted many technology companies from formation through successful exits, including advising VISR Inc. on its sale to SafeToNet Limited, Weather Telematics Inc. on its sale to Internet of Things Inc., and Northern Micro Inc. on its sale to Converge Technology Partners. He has also advised on financing transactions for Kaloom Inc. (US$10.7 million Series A), Taplytics Inc. (US$4 million Series A), and eSight Corporation (CA$12 million Series 2 preferred share offering). Tom also acted for Bridgewater Systems and DragonWave Inc. on their TSX and dual-listed IPOs, and has significant experience with cross-border acquisitions and venture capital financings for clients including Celtic House Venture Partners, Blumberg Capital and Relay Ventures.

Tom holds an LL.B. and a B.Comm from Queen's University (1975, 1978). He is a past co-chair of Dentons' Canada Corporate group and a past co-leader of the Global Corporate group.

He is recognised by The Best Lawyers in Canada in Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Technology Law, Venture Capital Law and Private Funds Law, and has been named "Lawyer of the Year" multiple times for Technology Law, Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law.
